      What does high polymer mean - What's made of these polymers


      I would like to know some detailed information about what exactly high polymers are?

      Hi Gteuae,

      A high polymer is a large molecule that is made up out of repeating structural units (building blocks). These structural units are kept toghether by a covalent chemical bond.

      Some examples of what can be produced from high polymers are:

      - Medical splints.
      - Matrasses, and
      - Super absorbent high polymer used to make diapers.

      There are lots of different kinds of high polymer. Have a look at this wikipedia link for a list of different types of polymers and their better known brand names.

      There is also a new type of polymer that has come into the market called Virgin Polymer. These can be recycled 'n' no. of times
