What is the eBay analytics tool?

Hey everyone. I was just wondering if someone could please tell me more about the eBay listing analytics tool that I believe is replacing the search visibility tool. What does it do? How can I best use it to improve my eBay business? Thx guys!!

The eBay listing analytics tool is replacing the search visibility tool. It looks as though eBay has used the Joomla open source content management software as a basis for the analytics tab. Joomla is also used by MTV, GE, Harvard University and Citibank.

It essentially shows you your ‘sales funnel’ which provides data on impressions, clicks and sales on your items that you have listed. It’s a pretty helpful tool because it breaks everything down for you.

      1. Impressions- The funnels top section is for impressions. This means how many times your item appears in a search result. If your item is listed on the first page of the search it will be counted as an impression. If it is on a different page it will be counted if the page that your item is on has been viewed.

      2. Clicks-This is how many times your listing has been clicked on and viewed. A good thing about this is that if it is clicked on multiple times by one user it is only counted as one click. Only when a listing is clicked directly from the search page does it count. The click through rate is the percentage of people who click on your listing after it pops up in the search results.

      3. Sales- Pretty self explanatory. This shows you the number of items sold. The sell through rate is the percentage of sales of the number of clicks a listing has. It also shows you how much you have made off the listing.

Interesting, thanks. Is this free for everyone to use? And how do I access it?

Yes it is free. Just go to the ‘applications’ tab that is in My eBay, from there you can subscribe to it.

You can find it very simply; it has replaced the Search Visiblity Analysis. It now reads “Listing Analytics”. You can also see the link on the item page, seller dashboard, selling manager, and the site map.

I guess it sounds like a good addition to eBay, but will it be able to improve my business in anyway, or is it just facts and numbers that show how I am doing?

Well I definitely think that you could use the information that it provides to help boost your sales.
First of all you can compare your listings to similar items also listed on eBay. You can also make sure that you listed your items in the most relevant key words and categories.

You can also see where your listing comes up in search results. If you rank under 50, than you are on the first search result page which means your number of impressions should be pretty high.

Once you know how your listings are doing you can take the necessary steps to improve your visibility. The more impressions you get the greater your chance is for sales.

Here are some tips if you have low impressions/clicks or sales:

Impressions- If the listing is new, it may not have been seen yet. This could also mean that not many people are searching for your item. Or it may not shown high up in search results. Read this it should help you get impressions: eBay: Seller Information

Clicks- First check your impressions, because if people don’t find it on the search page they can’t click on it. If they haven’t clicked on it make sure you make your listing as enticing as possible, price reasonably, free shipping, use photos, a good title etc.

Sales- After you work on improving your impressions and clicks, sales is the final step. Make sure people are interested in your item. Make your listing as professional as possible. Keep everything consistant, provide options for shipping and purchasing.

      Good luck with everything!
