What are the best items to sell on eBay?

This must be the most common question you guys get, but what are the best items to sell on eBay? Are there any products that sell better than others? Not looking for someone’s business plan. Just want to get some advice on what is good to sell.

      Thanks for the time.

You are right, this is a pretty common question but that’s alright The problem with the question is that the answer is always changing.

eBay puts out a hot list (eBay Pulse: trends, hot picks, cool stuff and popular searches on eBay.com) that is free so you can check on what items are trending. Most often electronic items including computers, game consoles and TVs are peaking but be wary of competition.

Try and think outside the box because you want to offer something that everyone else isn’t offering. If you do offer what other people are offering, you have to keep your price low and quality high.

      • Sell things that you own (raid the garage/storage unit)
      • Rare collectibles sell big because you can’t find them just anywhere
      • Seasonal/holiday items

Like I said- think outside the box. Don’t just try and fit in. Look at those subcategories and see what you can’t do.

This is a hard question to answer especially for someone starting out. When I began I just sold what I had. It helped me get rid of a lot of stuff and gave me a way to make some quick change.

Digital cameras, DVDs, computer, cell phone, records…I sold a lot of everything it seems. eBay has tons of categories.

Once you sell a few items and attract some feedback, items sell better. There’s a lot more than the “trending item” to make an item sell better. Buyers are going to look at your seller profile and check your feedback. You’ve got to build that up first.

Great advice. Thanks guys! Yeah I knew I was going to have to do some work. Just didn’t want to start with the wrong product. A friend of mine has an eclectic shop but he has a lot of personal things he sells.

Appreciate the link to the ebay hot list. I will certainly check that out.

Remember that selling items on eBay takes time. You have to build up a reputation so think about things that sell quickly. The items that sell quickly and garner a lot of bids are the best ones – it could be a picture and not a camera. It just depends on who you attract to the listing.

I’m with everyone else. Sell what you have first to get started. If you are looking to get into the wholesale side of things you need to research what you want to sell. The Ebay trend list is a good place to start. Most people think about DVDs, iPads and other electrical equipment but that is a saturated market.

If you keep quality and price in mind then you will have the best item on eBay. Don’t be afraid to do some self-promotion. Most newbies think that people will just flock to their item. I use social media tools to spread links to my listings. You have to reach out and show people what you have.

Social media yes! I am on twitter talking to customers about what they want. I go and look for things they want so I can sell it. Repeat customers are golden.

Yeah, I was thinking of using social media and an eBay store (eventually).

Right now the Xbox 360 is a moneymaker - as in its sales on eBay. There are a lot of people selling them though. I go for the niche market when I think about what I want to sell.

Give your customers something they can’t find anywhere else. That’s the best way to do it.
