      Is Selling on eBay Profitable?

Hi everyone, most of my friends are making great profits and income by selling on eBay. However, I am a little confused as to how to go about doing it. Can anyone provide me with some information on what to sell on eBay?

Hey, even I would love to have some eBay selling tips which I can use. I have also heard that eBay now charges exorbitant fees to sellers. Anyone listening?

I know someone who sells electric condiment sets and makes a tidy profit. It's not his only line but he does okay. It surprised me to be honest - I would think that was a narrow market considering it's not really a repeat purchase sort of item. Are there other people selling a similar product? Probably. In my opinion Ebay is getting too big for its britches and it's worth looking into similar sites.

Well, I have been around for a long time on eBay and this is one question that continues to haunt me even today. Well this question has a simple answer, if you want to know what to sell on eBay, then you should first know what the buyers want. You will find that most of the people who have made fortunes out of selling goods on eBay were very good marketers with acute understanding of buyers needs.

In order to experiment selling on eBay, you can opt for any one of the following two approaches:

      • Search for the most popular items on eBay and then put them up for sale, thereby attracting a large majority of customers who would be viewing them regularly.

      • Sell the items that you’re passionate about. These items may not be popular, but if you have the passion to sell them, then with effective marketing techniques and sales acumen, you can succeed.

Thanks for the information Jake, however most of the popular items on eBay would cost me a fortune to buy and I doubt I would be able to sell them at a profit with so much competition in the domain.

Selling on eBay can be one of the most difficult things to do. If you thought physical sales are bad, selling online is even worse. Yes, the most popular way of eBay selling is through popular products, however, it requires huge buying capacity on your part and then selling these popular products at a higher margin becomes all the more difficult since they are already procured at a higher price. Such transactions would not be profitable unless they are bought and procured at rock bottom prices from distress sales, liquidations, etc.

So, in such a situation, you need to shift your focus toward niche products and segments like low cost accessories. These might not be very popular but with the use of graphics and marketing, they can be distinguished from the products of the other sellers, and sold well.

To create hype for your products, the primary task is promotion of the goods and services you’re offering.

      i. Build your own website, optimize it and promote it, one of the easiest ways of attracting traffic.

ii. In the eBay domain you can gain credibility within the buyer community by joining some popular sellers’ groups on eBay.

iii. Design elegant templates summarizing what you’re selling on eBay. It should contain all the information about the product, so that all the questions of the customers are answered.

iv. Have a short and simple username, so that your customer does not have trouble locating you. Also have a logo to be employed as the symbol of your business.
