My item was listed as used on eBay

I placed a brand new, unused item on eBay UK for auction, and a few days later my category was switched from New to Used! I cant change it back, and Im not getting any bids on my item. I think people are confused, since Ive gotten lots of messages about how my description is misleading. Help!

For a start, why not lets consider what ebay now defines as Used:

An item that has been previously used. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or an item that has been returned to the seller after a period of use. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections.
In July, Ebay rolled out new condition definitions. Most sellers converted without any trouble, but there’s been a few who have been caught under the wheels of progress, as it were.

Electronics and books you probably shouldn’t have to update, as ebay will map these for you, but there’s some subcategories that aren’t covered, you’ll have to update these yourself:

      Books
      – Accessories, Antiquarian & Collectibles, Wholesale & Bulk Lots

      DVDs & MOVIES
      - Wholesale Lots

      MUSIC – Records, Wholesale Lots

VIDEO GAMES – Accessories, Merchandise, Other, Vintage Games, Time Cards, Systems, Wholesale Lots, Guides

Just to be on the safe side, try these Best Practices:

      ● Start using the new item condition values as soon as they are available.
      ● Ensure that your item description aligns with the item condition you specify—you cannot have contradictions between the two.
      ● Continue to fully describe the condition of your item in the body of your listing and make sure this description is consistent with the new item condition value you choose.
      ● Continue to identify in your listing any defects or other information a buyer should know in order to make an informed decision.
      ● Provide plenty of photos that complement the item condition and description.

You might need to UPDATE yourself. There’s a video

There is a chance, however slim, that the OP’s auction could be ended prematurely, but very likely that won’t happen. Honestly, not that complicated. If you just use the new definitions, you should be in the black on this.

what I’ve seen so far as ebay pulling auctions has been from the seller using confusing language, from a definition and key-word standpoint.

If your listing says something along the lines of “Brand new, never used”, then your auction was pulled because of your using both “new” and “used”. See, the scripts that go through and scan listings for key-words don’t recognize the “never” in front of “used”; it only recognizes “used”. When you understand that, it’s quite clear why your auction was removed-- an item can’t be both “new” and “used”. It’s a piddling annoyance, and a bit of a trifle considering the hassle of re-listing your auction. I’m uncertain as to why you’re being forced to wait a week to re-list. I’d contact customer service, if you haven’t already done.
