How do I Write eBay Titles that Sell?

I am new to ebay. I have tried selling some of my stuff on ebay but my listings are not appearing in the top search results. My friend advised that I should focus on the titles of my listings. Can somebody suggest useful tips to write good ebay titles?

Christy, your friend is right. If you want to get noticed on ebay, the titles of your listings should be good. They should be relevant, eye-catching, and should contain the right keywords.

Keywords are the most important. If you don’t include the right keywords, your buyers will not be able to find you.

Further i would like to Add an example, let’s suppose you wanna sell children books. If you do not include the keyword “children” or “kids” along with “books” in your title, your potential buyers may not find you in the top search results. This is because your buyers are more likely to enter “children books” in the search bar. Therefore, those titles that contain both the keywords will appear at the top of search results.

You can use keyword tools to find out what eBay buyers are searching for precisely. The tool you need for this purpose is Terapeak.

I agree with Latinrose. You have only 55 characters to write your titles on ebay; therefore, you should choose your words very carefully. It is best to include the most important keywords like the name of item and name of brand.

Suppose you want to sell Speedo women’s swimwear, you should mention “Speedo women swimwear” in your title. Probably good to include the color and style of swimwear in the title too.

Antonio, I think you hit a good point with the 55 character issue. Most people fail to write effective titles because they don’t know how to fit so much information into just 55 characters.

I would advise all the sellers on ebay to make the best use of ebay shorthand to write good, descriptive ebay titles that sell. Here are the ones that are used most often:

      BN - Brand New
      Ud - Used
BNIB - Brand New In Box
      EX CON - Excellent Condition
      NR – No Reserve
      TFL- Thanks for Looking
      HR – Highly Recommended
      BIN – Buy it Now
      S/O – Sold Out
      VF – Very Fine Condition
      COA – Certificate of Authenticity
      MIB – Mint in Box

Bluewonder, I like your tip of making the best use of ebay shorthand. One trick that has helped me to gain top positions for my listings is to use the important keywords at the very beginning of titles.

You’re absolutely right Cheapo! For example, if I want to sell Nike runner shoes, I will put all the important keywords like Nike and runner shoes in the beginning of the title. As soon as the potential buyer enters these keywords, my listing will appear in the search result.
