I think ebay is endless, there are so many out there who might be competing even on a small scale it would be hard to keep track of everyone. I still check out my competitors sites just to see "what the other guy is doing" but there is no way I can keep up with all of them.

Competing on price isn't always the best way to build a profitable long term business on eBay. You will always find someone willing to undercut you and make cents per sale.

      1. Build up good feedback: this may mean that at the start you will not make much profit in order to attract sales.

      2. At the beginning, focus on conversions: the more you convert, the more eBay likes you and your listings. If your eBay conversion rates are high, eBay will feature your listings higher up the search results.

      3. Create professional templates: you can easily hire a designer on Elance.com and have a template built for $50-$100. Aim to create a general theme for all your auctions, which identifies you to the buyers when they revisit your auctions. Consistency is essential, it portrays an idea of professionalism, and leads to repeat sales from happy customers.

      4. Offer superior customer service and superior after sales support: Amazon is so successful because it offers buyers a pleasant buying experience. Amazon knows that acquiring a customer the first time bears the highest cost, it therefore focuses on offering buyers a perfect buying experience so that they will come back for more. Replicate their model.

Being successful on eBay will take time, but the sooner you start the sooner you will have created a profitable and sustainable business, after some hard work. If it was easy, everyone could do it, you should be thankful it's a demanding process.
