Going by the rationale of Ries and Trout (authors of some really famous marketing books), the ebay user name can be a great marketing tool and is the most important part of the online branding process. You should try and opt for something that reflects what you do or stand for when you go ahead and change ebay user name. Like if it’s women’s fragrances, then it should be something delicate while if it’s machine tools, you might want to go in for something more macho.
It is important not to define your name or the category too narrowly as this will be a problem in case you decide to expand your portfolio later on. Most Ebay sellers like to experiment with products across categories over time. So if you are planning to sell a variety of gadgets but are starting with kitchen appliances don’t restrict yourself to the kitchen or chefs or something that limits you.
You could try using your own name if you can get it. Just avoid anything with any negative or arrogant connotations that might put off or scare a prospective customer. We don’t always realize it in our conscious minds but names play an important role in vendor selection all other things being equal.
Unique, recognizable and easy to remember – that is what Ebay suggests. There are some Ebay User ID rules that you should know about:
• No offensive or swear words
• No user ID with Ebay in it since it gives the impression that you work with Ebay
• No consecutive underscores or greater than or less than symbols.
• No one letter namesOver 150,000 Verified Sources + Deals 95% Off MSRP + Free Website!

Since most of us never had a chance to pick our real life names, the chance to create or change ebay user name is a fun exercise. I would suggest the following tips –
1. Try something that says something about you or your chosen profession, interests, area of work, speciality…etc
2. Try not to use words that will embarrass you if they become public knowledge i.e. your mom sees them.
3. Avoid negative, weird or silly names since they undermine you and the work that you are doing on Ebay
4. Try not to change your ID too often – You lose loyal customers plus people tend to distrust you.
5. Make sure your user ID is not a good clue for your password. More people than you think, make that mistake.

I heard that feminine sounding names inspire more trust. On a lighter note, given that most buyers are men, they may just inspire more sales as well. Try Angelina Jolie if you are serious abt decision to change ebay user name

To change ebay user name is pretty simple. But you should keep a few things in mind-
• Your old ID is no longer yours. Somebody else can take it and do what they will. Plus existing customers will not know how to find you ; they will find the new guy instead who may be mistaken for you – this can have many consequences.
• Ebay displays a small icon next to recently changed ID’s wherever it is displayed – auction listings, feedback page…etc which can often be a turn off for many buyers or bidders
• There is no getting away from the past – the user ID history will display everything plus feedback will be carried into new ID.
• You have to wait a minimum 30 days before you can change back or into something else.

You could also find ebay user id that reflects you – your nationality, hobby, interests or profession. An ID identifies you with all the Ebay users, so take your time selecting something that you are comfortable being identified with.

When you decide to change ebay user name, make sure that the name reads ok in all the languages of the countries that you are selling to. There can be a lot of different meanings to an innocuous sounding English word.
All big brands do this exercise when rebranding or launching a new product.

Your email ID will become the user ID and makes you look real lazy or a first timer to everyone. Btw beware of making the same type of mistakes when you change ebay user name – like someone mentioned, it stays for min 30 days.
