      Ebay store or auction?

Do you think it's better to set up an e-bay store or just list auctions for your business? I love browsing through other people's e-bay stores but I don't have 1. I use auctions.

Please tell me the pros and cons.

I just started to sell things on e-bay. I'm not an expert yet... I don't have any e-bay stores, I use the auctions and buy it now. I don't really like to look in the e-bay stores either. I think they are higher priced, and I like to bid and win things. So I would stay with the auctions, but that is just me.

One option does not exclude the other, you can use both. In fact, your eBay Store can very easily complement your auction listings, and viceversa.

Use auction listings to drive traffic to your eBay Store, where eBay fees are lower. Use the eBay Store to develop a brand identity on eBay (consider commissioning the design of an eBay Store template that is unique and that promotes your brand as a reliable seller on eBay). Use the two to cross sell to your customers, in order to increase your average eBay order value.

eBay Stores are also a great intermediate step before launching your very own ecommerce website.

NOTE: eBay Stores have lower insertion fees than eBay auction listings, however eBay Stores incur a monthly maintenance fee [ http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/storefees.html ]. You should account for this extra fee in your eBay Store's product prices.

I didn't even think about using both. There is a way to direct people to your ebay store through an auction? Can you explain to me how to do that? I would love to give it a try. I know I didn't ask the question, but I am glad I read the answer. I would like to set up some auctions and also have a store.

Simply place a link or banner, towards the bottom of your auction, linking to your eBay Store. There are also tools like Auctiva that feature, on rotation, your eBay Store items, with the option to feature first those items that are most related.

That sounds like a good idea to me too. Possibly have the same items in your store as you do in auction? After time, you'll be better able to gauge which venue brings you the most business.

I would list your auctions first, build up your reputation, regular customers, get an established name for yourself and then put a store up. I just see auctions being more financially unstable, yet a better way to build up your business.
