Thanks for giving the information about the import agents. I’d like to know whether it is worth spending money on hiring such agents? Has anybody used their services?

It depends on what you are buying and how much. If you are planning to get huge supplies from China, then you should hire an import agent. Otherwise, youll have to personally go to China to meet the supplier, check its methods of production, the quality of its products, and so forth. When you hire an import agent, everything right from finding the right supplier to shipping is handled by the agent.

In my opinion, dealing with suppliers, negotiating prices, shipping, insurance and customs clearance are not very easy to handle on own. Its best to use the help of professionals in this matter.

They usually charge a fixed percentage of the total sales value. So, even if an agent charges around 2 percent of the sales value, it could be a really high fee if you are placing a big order. Like, for an order worth $10,000, you might have to pay $200 to the agent.

But if you hire an agent, you dont have to worry about the quality of products and the shipping of products. If you take into account the cost of hiring an inspector to check the quality of products and the cost of a freight forwarder, youll find that hiring an import agent is not very expensive.

Also, it is better to hire one import agent for quality inspections, deal negotiations and shipping rather than hiring separate professionals for all of these tasks.

First, you should collect the information about the import agents that deal in the products that you want. Its not necessary that an import agent may be dealing with all kinds of products like clothing, electronics, toys, accessories, and so on.

Once you have a list of agents that deal in your product category, you should read reviews about them. If youre not able to find reviews, ask the agents to give some references of their clients. All this will help you in knowing if the agent has a big list of happy customers or not.

You should then discuss the issues like your requirements and fee with the agents that have positive feedback.

you can check charge rates with import agent ,normally they get commission for the goods they import from you. If you import a big amount, i think it cost too much by import agent, you can also hire a staff in china to follow quality, production ,check preshipmment arrangement etc. The import agent usually get 3-10 QC staff ,and they have many orders to follow.
