18 May 2011 12:29 AM #1Importing sneakers from china to UK - Customs Duty and VAT on the import of Trainers
If I import a large shipment of sneakers from China to the UK, how much will it cost me as far as customs duty goes? From the mixed reviews I read, I cannot get a clear picture on what it will cost to import trainers.

18 May 2011 01:06 AM #2Import duties for trainers from China to the UK are going to vary depending on what type of trainer you are importing. For example, the duty rate for a TRX Suspension Trainer from China to the UK is 2.7 percent. VAT is 20 percent.
If you are not importing TRX Suspension Trainers, then go to Duty Calculator and fill in the specific information about the kind of sneakers you are importing from China. Then you will get the exact amount of duty and VAT you will be responsible for paying.Want To Be An eBay Powerseller? This is the Service You Need.

18 May 2011 01:48 AM #4You will need to estimate your landing cost, otherwise known as the sum of what it will cost you at each place your goods stop before arriving in the UK. These include:
● cost of goods up to loading on the transport
● transport costs by forwarder
● import duties
● local transport costs
● cost of service providers such as inspectors
If you want your goods inspected, you can hire an inspection company to make sure your goods are as you expect them to be before they are imported out of China to you in the UK.
Delivery from the port of entry to the final destination of the goods is one cost you cannot overlook. You can hire a carrier service to do this.

Going back to what you said earlier, the inspection company will make sure my goods are being shipped the way I want them to be, right?

18 May 2011 02:43 AM #6If you hire an inspection company, they will go to the factory before your goods are shipped and make sure that your goods have been made and are ready to be shipped in the way you requested.
● You need to give the inspection company specific details for what to check.
● An inspection takes place a few days before the goods are shipped.
● Inspecting goods before they ship prevents you from receiving defective goods or goods that do not conform to government standards.

I have hired an inspection company, but I also need someone who can help get my goods through customs.

18 May 2011 04:50 AM #8In that case, you should hire a customs house broker and a forwarder. The former will fill out all the necessary paperwork to make sure your goods make it without any problems from China to the UK. The latter entity will make sure your goods are transported safely and without problems.
If it is your first time using either of these services, then hire an agency that is individualized. This is because you will need more attention as a person who is unfamiliar with the process.
