Buying at employee pricing and then selling at retail

I've got a chance to buy some athletic clothing at employee pricing (which is just over cost). Do you think it would be legal for me to sell it online at retail prices? I'm thinking e-bay or something similar to this. I won't bring it into my business as it's not what I normally sell.

I am sure that it probably is legal. I mean isn't that what selling stuff is about getting it as cheaply as possible and then turning around and selling it for as much as you can?

It should be legal. But it might be against the store's rules and it might get you fired. So you might want to check with that before you sell it.

You would also need large quantities to make it worth your while in the long run. You might be able to do it occasionally, but it is unlikely to be a sustainable long term option. Your employer is likely to limit your available supply or stop you from buying at a discount if they find out you are buying to resell.

Further they might have a case for laying you off. For example, some employers clearly state in the employment contract that you must inform them if you have other jobs or business interests. They may also argue that your resale activity disrupts their supply chain and is therefore harming or undervaluing their brand.

I agree with the admin. You can ask your employer about it first. If your employer agrees to the resale of the product then you can continue. If not then you know what to do. I think having a small income but could endanger your employment is really not worth it.
