I make sure to send out orders with a recorded signature, and if the buyer looks suspicious, don't sell anything to them. The only logical way to deal with chargebacks is to factor in the risk with your operation.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

You can try to contact the customer and ask them nicely what happened. Time after time, especially on the internet, the customer didn't recognize the charge. You can limit this to a minimum by making it clear how your business will be listed on their card statements.

That could be the case, but their are some dishonest folks out there. If you happen to experience this, simply send them a letter threatening further legal action if they do not correct the situation. Before you go any further, ask yourself if the cost is worth the time and effort.

If you accept Visa and Mastercard make sure you signup to the Verified By Visa and Mastercard SecureCode programs:

    1. Signing up and implementing these extra verifications in your payment pages will reduce your payment processing costs, since banks are lowering processing rates for merchants adopting these verification methods. The reason is that, if you as a merchant use this extra verification step, the bank has less risk of having to manage chargebacks (point 2. explains why).

    2. Visa and Mastercard guarantee payments that are verified through Verified By Visa and Mastercard SecureCode. As a merchant, if you process this extra verification step the payment is guaranteed by Visa and Mastercard.

Disadvantages? Some buyers may not remember their Verified By Visa or Mastercard Securecode code when they arrive at checkout, and as a result may end up not completing the transaction at all.

This disadvantage is however offest by the fact that:
    - both systems allow the user to reset the code during the purchase process, and
    - as these two extra verification steps become more popular, virtually all buyers will remember their codes.
