Which Social Sites are best? Should I use any one in particular?
Is one better than the other or is it worth it to take the time and setup all of the major ones (facebook, twitter, etc). I am wondering even more if anyone knows of a software maybe that could tie all of them together (to avoid wasting time with updates). Thank you!

I've never read about anything that links updates to several sites. It's a good idea for someone who is technical - you could make a fortune. However, I can't see how it would work as these sites are quite different in so many ways.

I am not aware about that as well. After all, those are social media websites where people come and participate on as humans. I think you would get better result and responses by updating things on the sites manually and give your personal touch on the updates.

There are MANY software packages (desktop based or hosted) that offer the option to manage and monitor social media activity. A few examples:
TweetDeck
Vocus On-Demand Software for Public Relations and Government Relations
HootSuite - Social Media Dashboard for Teams using Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin
CoTweet - How business does Twitter (for managing multiple Twitter accounts)

There is also a good article on how to go about managing social media at: HOW TO: Manage Multiple Social Media Profiles
Many will argue that the use of social media automation software is not recommended, due to the varying nature of audiences across social sites.

Last time I looked into it Facebook charged 'per click' so it should be fairly reasonable. You also get the advantage (from a business owners point of view) of being promoted on the pages of those in your general geographical area. (I say that from my own experiences of having a Facebook page for personal use.) That is advantageous for some types of business, perhaps not for all.

The two main social networking sites are Facebook and Twitter. I agree with "WholesaleForum" that Tweetdeck is an excellent program for managing both sites. You can set up Twitter to post directly to your Facebook account.
In addition, use a site such a shorturl.com to shorten links to your blog or business pages. Post these to Twitter (which would then also update Facebook) to drive traffic to your site.
Make sure you utilize the hash tags on Twitter to target your audience.
