What are the legal stuff needed to import from China. I want to import light weight electronic devices from China.

If it all looks too overwhelming, we recommend starting to import from a Hong Kong based agent, and then move up to direct importing from China.

You need to get your company registered with customs department and obtain IE code (Import export code number) It takes about 2 weeks to get it. Current duty for most item is 28.85%. Indian customs department uses some formula but net result is composite duty of 28.85% which is calculated on CIF value of goods. Since you are buying weighing scale you might need some certificate from department of weight and measure to sell it. I am not sure about last requirement but better to check before import.

Getting IE code is a little difficult. It takes about 3 to 4 weeks, not 2 weeks in normal way. Current duty is also considerable. For free trade between the two countries, legal requirements should not be so complicated. This is just my view.
