More than One Shop on eBay
Can I open two eBay stores?

A person can open one eBay store per account. So, if you want to open two eBay stores, you should have two accounts on eBay. But, I’m wondering why you need two eBay stores.

I’m presently selling used cellphones, PDAs, and accessories on eBay. I’m planning to sell designer clothes too. So, I want to have two shops, one for electronics and other for designer clothes. I think that selling both of them through one shop is not a good idea. What’s your opinion? Also, I’d like to know if eBay allows an individual to have eBay multiple users ids?

Yes, eBay multiple accounts are allowed. However, all your accounts should be in good standing.
You can open more than one shop on eBay. You need a separate eBay account for each one of them.
Many people prefer to sell products belonging to different niches through different eBay shops.
One of the key benefits of opening multiple eBay shops is that it helps you project yourself as a pro. Suppose you sell clothes and toys on eBay. If you sell both of them through one shop, you may use a general eBay ID that does not reflect your products and business. But if you have different eBay shops for clothes and toys, you could use IDs that reflect your business. Like in this case, you could use “BrandedClothing” and “bestToyShop” as the user ID for your clothes and toys shop respectively.
The benefit of using business-specific user IDs is that people think that you specialize in the products that you sell. You are not considered as one of the thousands of eBay sellers who don’t know anything about their products. Projecting yourself as a pro helps you increase your sales.
But before you open multiple shops, you should calculate the risk to reward ratio. Opening multiple shops increases your overheads, therefore you should first find out if you will be able to earn good profits through your shops or not.

Is it true that I can’t open eBay multiple accounts with one email address?

Yeah, it’s true. For each account on eBay, you need a different email address but you can link up to eight eBay accounts to one Paypal account.

I have one tip for all those who plan to have eBay multiple accounts. You should never bid for your own items from other accounts in order to increase the bid price. If you do so and eBay realizes this, then your account may get suspended.

I suggest that instead of opening multiple eBay shops, you should sell items that do not belong to your current niche through regular auction listings.

Selling through regular listings is a good idea but many people prefer selling items through different eBay shops because it helps them organize their transactions better.
You could easily track your profits and revenues if you have different shops for your different niche areas. It also helps you to know which niche area is performing the best and which is not doing well.

I have good reputation on eBay as a seller of used electronics products. As mentioned earlier, I’m now planning to venture into the business of branded clothing. The reason why I want to have a separate eBay clothing store is that if unfortunately I’m not able to succeed in the new business or buyers are not happy with the clothes that I sell, it won’t affect my feedback rating as a seller of used electronic products.
