Easiest way to make money on eBay?

What's the easiest item to sell and make money on with eBay? Like something you can buy cheap and then sell at a higher price somewhere where it's not supplied or something that you can buy where most people don't know about, then sell it at retail price. Like those AMC movie tickets they have at Costco, they cost $15 for 2 tickets, and you could sell them on Ebay for $10 a piece probably. Do you think this would work? Can anyone recommend items that would work well to make money? Thanks!

Bear in mind that eBay + PayPal fees will take away around 15% of your selling price. If something cost you $7.50 and you sell it for $10, you are making $2.50 per item - $1.50 in eBay fees, leaving you with $1 profit per unit. You'll need to sell an awful lot of tickets to make it worth your while.

( btw you can calculate eBay fees by using this tool: ecal | Free eBay Fee Calculator )

If you are going for cheap items, you should really aim for 500%+ return. For example, an iPad cover that costs you $0.25 and sells for $1.50 has a 500% markup, since you are selling it at 5 times above your cost price. The 15% in eBay and PayPal fees will have minimal effect on your overall profit. In this example you will still need to work quite hard to make a good $ profit, since your profit is likely to be in the $1 to $2 range per unit (up to $2 in case you are making a profit on s&h, not recommended but often the case with cheaper items sold on eBay).

If you are going for high-demand branded items (like branded clothing), there are quite a few legitimate sources that can help you earn good margins on eBay, somewhere in the region of 30% to 60% margin. Just make sure you are buying from legitimate sources that supply you only with genuine merchandise, eBay is rightly very strict about the sale of counterfeits. You can find a good article series on the eBay VeRO program at Surviving eBay's VeRO Program - Part I - eSources.co.uk

Lastly, you could try reselling bulkier and more expensive items like furniture, which can often be drop shipped, sometimes even directly from the factories in the Far East.

There are many products that can earn you a profit on eBay, and there are probably just as many that would make you a loss or that wouldn't sell at all. Research is the key here, use the Google Keyword Tool and Terapeak to evaluate the potential demand and supply of your chosen products.

500%? That seems impossible. Where would you get products that cheap? And also, I tried that eBay calculator thingy, and without any extra features, the profit is $1.79 per ticket.

Impossible is nothing Factories can easily offer those prices when you buy in quantity. The key is to anticipate a trend, if you buy ahead of the trend you can afford to buy in quantity, because as soon as demand picks up you will be able to easily shift the product in quantity. The iPad was widely anticipated, therefore no excuses there.

The thing with light items like the Ipad covers is that, even if you fail to anticipate a trend, you can still catch up by having the product air freighted to you directly from the factory (instead of shipped by sea). Air freight takes much less time than sea freight and as a result costs more, but if the per unit weight is low, the higher shipping cost will have little effect on your per unit cost.

Or, if you know what you are doing, some people are known to hijack containers when they have almosted docked. Not literally hijack, some importers simply buy access to those databases that record container movements, contact the factories where those containers are originating from, and offer a higher price just to get the merchandise quicker. This happens often when there is a sudden spike in demand for a product, or sudden shortage in the supply of a product.

$1.79 profit per ticket after eBay fees, but how about after PayPal fees?

I don't do like TONS of selling on eBay so I have a personal account. no fees at all with a business account, it would only be like $1 profit...

Accessories to necessities is the best way I can put it. Say you go to a hardware store to buy a drill. The price may seem reasonable because the mark-up isn't that high. So you're not going to make a lot of money there. Where you're going to make money is in the bits. A drill is useless without drill bits so they mark it up sky high. Sometimes as much as 200%. So if you can buy something of that nature wholesale and mark it up only 100%, you're giving the customer an incentive to buy it and you still make a good profit after fee's.

I like that theory. Know which products are capable of the biggest mark ups, see if there's a market for it, and go from there.

If you are selling for profit, you are required to have an eBay business account and claim your profit to the IRS for tax purposes.

In this economy, I'd stick with what people need, not what they want. People are cutting financial corners left and right, so if you don't offer them what they need, they'll cut you too.

Very true, however there are ways to create need in the buyer's mind. It's called copywriting and sound marketing.
